NOTE: Although at least two sources, including a death certificate, give 1922 as the year of death for Aaron Porter Melton, there are reasons to believe that the death certificate is incorrect because it lists his place of birth as Georgia and his age as 62 when he died. However, three U. S. Census reports show that he was born in Tennessee, and one U. S. Census report shows that he was alive and living in Atlanta, Georgia, at the age of 79. Moreover, minutes of annual conferences of the Methodist Episcopal Church show that he began his ministry in 1870 in the Holston Annual Conference (Chattanooga, Tennessee area) and transferred in 1873 to the Georgia Conference.

-
NOTE: According to the 1874 Minutes of the Georgia Annual Conference of the Methodist Episcopal Church, the pastoral appointments at Clark Chapel MEC were listed as "TBS" (to be supplied) and Seaborn C. Upshaw. Since TBS was listed first and Seaborn C. Upshaw was listed second, the assumption is that the unnamed “to be supplied” pastor when the sessions of the 1874 Georgia Annual Conference ended would be appointed as the senior pastor. However, to this present day, we have been unable to find if a TBS minister was appointed as senior pastor in 1874, or if a TBS minister was appointed at all. Mindful of this, we have decided to list Seaborn C. Upshaw as the seventh (senior) pastor of Clark Chapel MEC.

NOTE: In two other histories of Central United Methodist Church (Clark Chapel Methodist Episcopal Church, Lloyd Street Methodist Episcopal Church, and Central Avenue Methodist Episcopal Church) Robert T. Kent, William Oliver Lynch, Henry R. Parmenter, and a “Minister” Trimmer from Mississippi were alleged to have been either a Senior Pastor, an Assistant Pastor, or a Student Pastor at Central sometime between 1867 and 1900.
Based on our research, Robert T. Kent and Henry R. Parmenter definitely were never pastors of Central. It is possible that William Oliver Lynch may have been the unnamed TBS (to be supplied) pastor who was to serve with Isaac J. Lansing during the 1875 Conference Year, which was the year that the merger between Clark Chapel MEC and Lloyd Street MEC took place.
Finally, we could not find any mention of a student minister from Mississippi ever serving as an assistant at Lloyd Street MEC or at Clark Chapel MEC. Moreover, we found no student with last name “Trimmer” in any of the catalogues of Clark College or of Gammon Theological Seminary.
